Associate DJs
A Small Team. One CADJ Standard. No Compromises
Most of the time I’m the DJ on the night.
On some dates — typically when I’m already booked or when logistics make it the best option — I may offer you one of my trusted associate DJs — handpicked, briefed, and working under the Curtis Allen DJ banner.
I still handle the planning and prep, so your night stays personal and properly curated.
How Associate DJs work
What stays the same:
- You still book through me (Curtis Allen DJ)
- I help shape your music plan and make sure the brief is clear
- Your DJ follows the same “no cookie-cutter weddings” approach
- Professional standards apply – setup, presentation, discretion, and crowd-reading
If I’m offering you an associate DJ, you’ll be told right at the start of the booking process, before anything is signed or paid for, so you know exactly what you’re booking and can decide comfortably before you book.
I’m deliberately keeping the team small. The goal isn’t to become a faceless agency — it’s to be able to say yes to the right couples and the right parties, even when I can’t physically be in two places at once.
Every associate DJ is personally vetted for musical judgement, professionalism, and the ability to read a room. If I wouldn’t trust them with my own reputation, they’re not on this page.
My Associate DJs

Stephen McCormick
Stephen is a Birmingham-based DJ with a deep-rooted love of alternative music and the kind of broad musical knowledge that keeps mixed-age dancefloors working all night.
Growing up, his tastes shifted away from chart pop and into guitar-driven music; Britpop, heavy metal and pop-punk, with a big early influence coming from the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater games (if you’re of a certain age, I know you’re the same!). Live music has always been a big part of that too.
Stephen first started DJing in Birmingham when a club he and I regularly attended – XL’s, (again, if you’re of a certain age and grew up in the Brum alternative scene… I know you have fond memories of XLs…) – was exploring the idea of launching a new Friday night. From there, he went on to DJ at various venues around the city on an ad-hoc basis, as well as supporting local bands and playing events for friends and colleagues.
Alongside DJing, Stephen works professionally as an IT Applications Analyst, which shows in how he approaches events: organised, calm, detail-focused, and reliable under pressure. He’s comfortable handling key moments like announcements and pacing the night properly, and he takes pride in building a set that feels considered rather than generic.
Under the Curtis Allen DJ banner, Stephen delivers nights that balance alternative credibility with crowd awareness — making sure the music reflects the people in the room while keeping energy and flow front and centre.
Music strengths include:
- Britpop, indie & alternative classics
- Pop-punk, emo & heavier rock
- 60s and Northern Soul
- Disco, Motown & proven floor-fillers
His style is friendly, professional, and guest-focused — aiming for a night that feels personal to the couple or host, but still works brilliantly for everyone on the dancefloor.
Standards and Reassurance
Whether it’s me or an associate DJ on the night, the expectations are the same:
- Clean, reliable sound and a tidy setup
- Confident handling of key moments (first dance, announcements, pacing the night)
- A music plan built around you — not a generic playlist
- Discreet, professional presence (no cringey forced banter unless you want it)
Associates are expected to meet venue requirements such as PLI and PAT where needed.
Thinking of Booking?
If you want a DJ who’ll cater to your metal side and also your gran, drop me a message with your date and venue and I’ll let you know what’s available.
If an associate DJ is the best fit for your date, I’ll talk it through with you clearly before anything is confirmed.
