Hello, I’m Curtis Allen

Hello! I’m Curtis Allen, and I’ve turned my passion for music into a career that allows me to bring joy and unforgettable memories to events across the spectrum. Allow me to tell you a little about me.

I have been into music since my early teens. My love for rock and metal started when, at age 14, I watched “Street Fighter 2: The Anime” and was blown away by the soundtrack that included Korn, Alice in Chains, Silverchair, KMFDM, and Intermix. I’d never heard anything like it and I was hooked.

As I got older, gigs – both of local bands and world-touring massive artists became a regular feature of my life, as did going to rock nights in Birmingham. Over 15 years ago, my best friend helped me get a DJing job at the rock night I’d been going to for years, Subculture, and it’s newly opened companion bar, Subside. While Subculture is no more, I still DJ regularly at Subside.

I’ve DJed many venues in and around Birmingham since starting out, and have DJed at the brilliant Download Festival a couple of times too.

I started DJing weddings about ten years ago, when people who had been to my club and bar DJ nights started approaching me and asking me to provide the soundtracks for their big days! I was honoured! I’ve gone on to DJ countless other weddings all over the UK since then, and really enjoy being a part of a couple’s special day.

Other than DJing, I am an illustrator. I have been drawing since I was old enough to hold a pencil and you can see my current project here. It’s a graphic novel about real-life American Civil War hero Robert Smalls.

I also work as a stilt-walker from time to time, performing at events and clubs around the world, including… yes… Download!

I’ve worked as an actor, a Health Care Assistant, Cadbury World Education Officer, Mobile Planetarium Presenter and a few other things!

I unashamedly love the films of Jackie Chan and the “Evil Dead” series of films, and TV shows like Star Trek, Xena: Warrior Princess, and 24.

My love for music spans genres, with a special place in my heart for rock and metal, but my DJ decks have seen everything from the classic hits to the latest chart-toppers. My journey into DJing wasn’t just about playing music; it was about creating moments, sharing experiences, and seeing the smiles and energy of a crowd in perfect harmony with the tunes.

What sets me apart is not just my diverse music selection but my approach to each event as a unique story waiting to be told. I pride myself on crafting personalized playlists that resonate deeply with my clients and their guests, ensuring that every event reflects their tastes and vision. Beyond the music, my goal is to make every aspect of the entertainment seamless and stress-free, from the first consultation to the last dance.

At the heart of it, I’m just a guy who loves music and the power it has to bring people together. Whether it’s a wedding, a corporate event, or a private party, I’m here to make sure your event isn’t just successful, but memorable. Let’s make some memories together.

Mike and I wanted to drop you a note to say how grateful we were that you were our DJ; from being open to collaborating with the saxophonist we hired, keeping the dance floor full all night and vetting requests, we don't think the night could have gone much better. We had a lot of guests with all different music tastes, yet seeing them all on the same dancefloor and having the best time was just fantastic.

We thought it was a great idea playing through different eras of music, every song was at least one persons go to - it was a wonderful evening.

Curtis absolutely brought the noise and it was banger after banger, he handled requests like an absolute boss and I know my friends are demanding. He also stayed an extra hour after I told him the wrong finishing time! He was so accommodating, from the consultation to the party he was nothing short of legendary.
