The Ultimate Wedding DJ Experience: Turning Challenges into Unforgettable Nights

Hey everyone!

I’m here to share the rollercoaster ride of my latest gig as a wedding DJ for The Best Men, where every moment is a learning experience, and every event brings new stories to tell. This past weekend, I had the honour of providing a unique wedding DJ experience at a beautiful wedding. While it had its challenges, it was a night filled with music, laughter, and some unexpected twists that turned out to be quite the adventure!

The Setup

The venue was absolutely stunning, with an atmosphere that promised a night to remember. The couple, Ashley and Caitlin, were fantastic to work with, and they had some unique musical tastes that made my job even more interesting. They were all about mixing classic rock, indie hits, and some pop-punk anthems, which was right in my wheelhouse.

The Challenge

The guests had different ideas. They were all about those nostalgic dance routine tracks like “Cha Cha Slide” and “Macarena.” Balancing these contrasting preferences was a bit tricky, but as they say, a DJ’s got to keep the party going!

The Turning Point

The highlight for me was seeing the couple step onto the dance floor for their special song, “Somewhere Only We Know” by Boyce Avenue. It was a beautiful moment, and I could see how much it meant to them. After that, it was all about finding the sweet spot between their indie-rock favourites and the guests’ energetic requests.

Keeping the Energy Up

I kicked off with some timeless classics and gradually introduced more upbeat tracks to get everyone moving. It was incredible to see how the right song at the right moment could transform the dance floor. Even though the guests preferred different genres, it was my job to ensure everyone had a great time, and that’s exactly what happened. From “Uptown Funk” to “Jump Around,” the smiles were contagious. And nothing will beat seeing the groom and the father of the bride recreate the Dirty Dancing lift to “Time of Your Life” by  Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes!
